Soapbox Derby! Sep 11th 2010

Live music, food, drinks, and speed, speed, speed!

Calling all speed demons, grease monkeys, crackpot inventors and rubber-neckers! We need teams of up to 4 people to design, construct and race a gravity-powered vehicle down our steep and extremely dangerous off-road course. Prizes awarded for multiple categories, including:

Best style/costumes
creative engineering
spectacular crash
slowest time
fastest time

Rules

All soapboxes must be gravity powered meaning no engines, pedals, or external energy sources allowed
All entries must include a functional braking and steering device. Suspension is advised (this is an off road course)
Helmets are required for all drivers and passengers (human), other forms of protection are encouraged.
Drivers must be at least 18 years old.
Weight: 250lbs max dry weight
Length: No more than 15' 1" long
Width: No more than 6' wide
Height: No more than 8' tall
wheels: 3 wheels minimum in contact with the ground.
Teams: Teams are not limited however there is a cap of 6 people per entry that will be allowed on the course during the race. Teams may choose how many of these 6 are driving and how many are pushing at the start of the course. There must be at least 1 driver.

course information

The course will start straight and mostly level where team members will be allowed to push start the soapbox, at the end of this section the course drops downhill. Athough the main hill is straight there will be obstacles and varying terrain. At the bottom of the hill the course feeds into a large banked corner that curves to the right into a central field where the finish line will be.

Teams are allowed a minimum of 2 practice and 2 timed runs down the course. Prizes will be awarded for time, performance, style, creative engineering. These times will also detirmine the starting order for those who wish to participate in a head-to-head, Mad Max endorsed, championship elimination. There will be no prizes awarded for this, but hey, maybe you'll live.

Steering and Braking device must be installed on all entries.
